Laser Eye Surgery — PRK, Femto LASIK and SMILE laser techniques aimed at reducing dependence on glasses for refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Which technique can be used is decided at a laser suitability assessment, based on corneal thickness, corneal curvature and dry eye. Your prescription should generally have been stable for some time.

Cataract & Intraocular Lenses — Cataract surgery and the monofocal, monofocal plus, EDOF and trifocal lens options used during it. Surgery removes the clouded natural lens and replaces it with an intraocular lens; lens choice depends on near/distance vision needs and eye structure.

ICL / Phakic Lens — A phakic lens implanted inside the eye for patients whose corneal structure rules out laser treatment, or who have high myopia. As the corneal tissue is left untouched, it is an alternative worth considering when corneal thickness is not enough for laser.

Eyelid Surgery — Upper and lower eyelid surgery, ptosis (droopy eyelid) surgery, fat transfer and brow lift. This group covers both functional complaints that narrow the field of vision and aesthetic concerns; the procedure needed is decided at examination.

Eye Examinations — Diagnostic steps such as a routine eye examination, a fundus (dilated eye) examination and a pre-laser suitability assessment, including a visual acuity measurement, an intraocular pressure measurement and an assessment of the back of the eye.

Glaucoma — Monitoring and treatment for glaucoma, also known as raised eye pressure. As it may cause no noticeable complaint early on, regular monitoring of eye pressure is key here.

Retinal Diseases — Conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and retinal tear/detachment. Some are picked up early through a fundus examination, others present with sudden vision loss.

Medical Aesthetics — Treatments around the eyes such as Botox, dermal fillers, fractional CO2 laser and RF microneedling, planned around fine lines, volume loss or skin quality.

The complaints patients describe point to a particular area. An increasing prescription and difficulty seeing clearly in the distance are matters for laser eye surgery and ICL/phakic lens; blurred vision developing with age, for cataract and intraocular lenses; a drooping eyelid or under-eye bags, for eyelid surgery; pressure in the eye and narrowing of the visual field, for glaucoma; floaters and sudden changes in vision, for retinal diseases; and skin pigmentation, lines and wrinkles, for medical aesthetics. Each treatment area has more than one method. Cataract includes cataract surgery and a choice of intraocular lens; laser eye surgery includes techniques such as PRK, Femto LASIK and SMILE; eyelid surgery includes surgical options such as blepharoplasty and ptosis surgery; medical aesthetics includes injection-based treatments such as Botox and fillers. Which method suits you depends on the complaint, the examination findings and your expectations; each sub-page explains who its method suits.

Deciding which of the eight areas applies to you depends on the complaint and the examination findings, so the doctor always confirms the final decision.
